The Terrace Plaza transformation may seem like a small thing at first, but as a longtime resident and frequent observer of the area, I will say this is one of the most critical locations in the city. It is where Long Beach Blvd runs into Ocean Blvd; a focal point of the Downtown. It is in front of the iconic Performing Arts Center designed by famed Long Beach architect Edward Killingworth which may be one of the most photographed spots in the city.
This location was overlooked for quite some time but SMG, the operator of the property, has done a terrific job improving it. It was recently announced that they are now putting in Bellagio style "Dancing Fountains" in this iconic location. Which, I can't help but mention, that this idea was pitched to Charlie Beirne of SMG and Steve Goodling of the CVB about 5 or 6 years ago by myself along with community advocate Eric Grey.
The "Dancing Fountains" will also be set to music, and I am a firm believer that this will be a bigger deal than people think. I have to take my hat off to the people who are making this happen. Both Steve and Charlie are the best at what they do, and we are lucky to have them in our corner.
I'm very much looking forward to the Terrace Plaza Transformation as well as other significant changes happening Downtown. Look for my take on other significant projects in future posts.
